The past eight months have been quite a ride for Melissa, Tom, and the rest of the team at Milestone. Having launched in the middle of the pandemic, and added HR services to widen their offering, they're now using Forecasting to help clients grow. Here's how.
Milestone was an early tester of Forecasting in Fathom, and so have been exploring its powerful features and functionality for several months. Now they’re beginning to weave it into conversations with clients.
Post-COVID, they’ve seen their client base fall into two broad categories, both of which need the strategic advice forecasting provides. A large number of clients have businesses in unaffected or growing sectors are consequently thriving.

They need guidance on how to scale their business for the next 12 months, whether that means new staff hires or asset purchases. On the flip side, those that are in sectors particularly affected by the pandemic are, understandably, looking to slim down their operation and ‘go skinny’.

As well as discussing clients' future needs, Tom and Melissa also detail their views on the future of the accounting profession as a whole. They believe that automation and better accounting software are going to make accounts’ wisdom and advice more in demand, as that’s what clients are looking for and prepared to pay for. As Tom says, ‘there’s never been a better time to be an accountant with the tools that we now have”.
